FAQs

Cat Tales Rescue NC was founded in 2023 by a group of passionate and experienced cat rescuers brought together by common goals and aligned values. Collectively, our founders have more than four decades of rescue experience, including foster and adoption counseling, TNVR (trap-neuter/spay-vaccinate-return), neonatal care, and much more.

  • Cat Tales Rescue NC’s mission is to cultivate partnerships with shelters and other rescue organizations in the Triangle area. Through these partnerships, Cat Tales Rescue NC helps at-risk cats and kittens—and assists other organizations in reducing their feline euthanasia rates—by transferring cats to our fosters and the cat café for adoption.

  • Cat Tales Rescue NC seeks out and cultivates partnerships with shelters and other rescue organizations in the Triangle area. Through these partnerships, Cat Tales Rescue NC helps at-risk cats and kittens—and assists other organizations in reducing their feline euthanasia rates—by transferring cats to our fosters and Cat Tales Cat Café for adoption.

Please note that we do not offer direct intake services. If you need to rehome your pet or have found a cat that seems to be lost, contact your local animal control agency or other rescue organization. If you are located in Orange County, please contact Orange County Animal Services at 919.942.7387. This well-run shelter is a valuable community resource with an outstanding facility, excellent veterinarians, and a high adoption rate.

  • Cat Tales Rescue NC is the nonprofit rescue arm of Cat Tales Cat Cafe, which provides a unique and valuable avenue for adoptions. Up to 12 cats at a time live at the café, where potential adopters can meet them. Our other rescue cats receive individual care, love, and attention with one of our foster families while awaiting their turn at the cat café.

The relaxed and open environment at the cat café allows us to get to know each cat and adopter individually, which leads to happier adoptions. Even previously overlooked cats get a chance to shine at the café, where they often get adopted quickly. This means less stress for the cats and makes space for us to rescue even more cats that need a home.

  • To see a gallery of the cats available for adoption, visit https://www.cattalesrescuenc.com/the-cats. In addition to the friendly cats living at the cafe, we have more adorable cats available in foster homes. If a particular cat catches your eye, depending on the cat’s location, you can make a reservation at the cat café or request a meet-and-greet at the cat’s foster home.

To meet a cat in foster care, please complete our simple online adoption application at https://www.cattalesrescuenc.com/adoption. There is no fee to apply and no obligation to adopt. Once your application is approved, our matchmaker will schedule a meet-and-greet with that kitty's foster. We approve all applicants prior to in-home meet-and-greets for the safety and convenience of our foster volunteers.

  • We would love to have you join the team as a donor or volunteer! To support our work with a donation or to order an item from our Wish List, visit https://www.cattalesrescuenc.com/donate. If you’d like to volunteer, the first step is to complete a form on our website at www.cattalesrescuenc.com/volunteer. There are opportunities to transport cats, review adoption applications, or foster cats in your home. Donors and volunteers play an essential role at Cat Tales Rescue NC, so please consider getting involved.ription

  • Cat Tales Rescue NC is considered an “adoption guarantee” organization, meaning we promise to find loving, appropriate placement for cats in our care whenever it is humane and responsible to do so. While there are no arbitrary limits on how long a cat can stay in our care, we work hard to match our cats with new families so they can move out of foster homes or the café into loving homes as quickly as possible.

We give every cat in our care the time and support they need; however, because we take in some very vulnerable and sick cats and kittens—including newborn orphaned kittens—a small number of the cats in our care do pass away or are humanely euthanized to end suffering due to incurable disease.
