Working to lower the cat euthanasia rate in North Carolina.
WHO We Are and WHAT We Do:
Cat Tales Rescue NC is a new nonprofit organization formed by a group of passionate and highly experienced cat rescuers brought together by their common goals and aligned rescue values. While this organization is new, it is built upon over FOUR decades of combined cat rescue experience, which includes medical fostering, foster and adoption counseling, TNVR, neonatal care, behavioral advice and much, much more. All of this on top of the five years Cat Tales Cat Cafe has been open!
Our unwavering mission is to proactively and strategically use our resources in a multipronged approach to lower the euthanasia rate of healthy cats in North Carolina. Our programs include: preventing litters, facilitating adoptions, TNVR and supporting community cat caretakers, diverting cats from the shelter system, and matching and supporting senior pets with senior citizens.
WHERE We Do This:
Cat Tales Rescue NC is the nonprofit rescue arm of Cat Tales Cat Cafe, which provides a unique and invaluable avenue for adoptions. The Cat Cafe environment allows us to get to know each cat and adopter individually enabling us to set adopters up for success which leads to happier adoptions. Even previously overlooked cats get a chance to shine at the café. At the Cat Cafe, cats get adopted quickly, which allows us to be efficient and cost effective, but most importantly, cause the least amount of stress on the cats.
WHY We Do This:
The State of North Carolina is consistently among the top THREE states for cat euthanasia. We find this unacceptable and work to make meaningful change. We believe that the pet overpopulation crisis is a community issue which requires a community solution. Therefore, we want to create opportunities to engage, assist, and educate our neighbors and invite them to actively participate in solutions.
We must change the mindset that shelters and rescues can solve all the problems. Based in Chapel Hill, Cat Tales Rescue NC is surrounded by an incredibly valuable, yet untapped resource; the students of the University of North Carolina. These bright minds are the next generation of animal owners and advocates and we are beyond excited to engage and collaborate with these change makers!
HOW We Do This:
Our team is foster based so 100% of funds raised go directly to the support of our cats and programs. Cats who are awaiting their turn at the Cat Cafe get individual care, love, and attention with one of our lovely foster families. Our fosters are a vital and treasured part of our operation and is incredibly rewarding and FUN.
Cat Tales Rescue NC was intentionally created to be a small yet mighty organization focused solely and entirely on cat welfare. We are surrounded by many amazing individuals and organizations working tirelessly to help cats, people we call the ‘Helpers.’ Through our partnership with Cat Tales Cat Cafe, we found ourselves in a unique position to use our platform to assist these Helpers, and thus our motto, ‘Helping the Helpers’ was born. It truly takes a village and we can do so much more for our cats and community together. Not to mention, it’s WAY more fun!
